Elaine Koyama
Elaine
Koyama brings over 20 years of professional management and field
experience in the areas of sales, sales and marketing management,
performance management, Quality Process, business planning and
individual and team performance improvement.
Elaine began her career selling hog feed door to door
in northern Iowa. If that wasn’t enough to send her back to
academia, she moved on to source ingredients for a feed plant, and
then to sell industrial and ag salt. This early field experience
served her well as a product manager, marketing manager and sales
manager for Cargill, Inc, one of the largest privately held
companies in the world.
Practical application of processes and systems has been Elaine’s
strength—from earning her MBA at night and being able to apply the
textbook theory directly to business applications, Elaine has
contributed by introducing new ways to established processes. As a
product and marketing manager, she has worked closely with R&D to
develop new products, repositioned and branded products in both
retail and industrial markets, and developed business strategies.
As a sales manager, Elaine has managed sales people, distributor,
broker and manufacturer’s rep networks. In these positions, Elaine
used ACT! by Sage and Customer Relationship Management tools like
Sage CRM SalesLogix. And it was in her role as sales manager that
she recognized the value of personality type and relationship
management, an interest that has developed into individual and team
performance enhancement consulting, which continues today.
In 1996 Elaine founded Management Protemps, a business consulting
firm based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Clients included Wells Fargo
Bank, Renessen Biotech, American Express Financial Services, and
several Cargill business units. Management Protemps clients
represented industries as varied as banking, R&D, financial
planning, plastics, and medical, I/T, and manufacturing. In addition
to business process consulting, Elaine utilized the Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator and the DiSC profile for team development,
performance coaching, change management and career consulting. She
joined forces with Scot Zimmerman to establish Interlinx Associates,
LLC in 2001, became and ACT! by Sage Certified Consultant in 2003, a
Premier ACT! by Sage Trainer in 2004 and a Certified Sage CRM
SalesLogix end user trainer in 2006.
Growing up on a sheep, sugar beet, and wheat farm in Montana shaped
Elaine’s continuing interest in agriculture and the West. She
received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University, and her
MBA from the Carlson School of Management. Elaine is an adjunct
faculty member at the University of St. Thomas Graduate School of
Business, where she teaches advanced level marketing. She is
currently on the board of trustees for the Minnesota 4-H Foundation,
and is actively involved in helping the Foundation train and deploy
volunteers to raise funds to support 4-H youth programs. She is a
full partner in an entrepreneurial business located in Hardin,
Montana and works part time as a professional ski and snowboard
instructor.
